The Reason for the Season…al Album

My desire & prayer for this collection of songs is that they would inspire people to worship the One who came that holy night and to experience Christmas with a renewed sense of wonder and rejoicing, and also provide encouragement to hearts that find themselves weary & burdened during the holiday season.

This project started simply & somewhat ironically as a challenge between my dear friend & fellow singer/songwriter Mindy Boyd and I, back in October 2007, when we set out to see who could first compose a meaningful, original Christmas song. (I submit that I won .)

This is not an easy task, you see. It seems & feels like it has all been said and done.

Yet from this challenge That Holy Night, the EP’s title cut, was born. And then with Christmas on the brain, I got a whole bunch of other ideas, and penned two more songs, and worked on arrangements of classics. Then I presented the idea to GOD, and asked for His blessing on it in the form of a producer in the Portland area.

After emailing many recording studios in the Portland area and about on the brink of giving up, I was divinely connected with Jordan Richter, who was enthusiastic about the project, and took me on…for four months of engineering, mixing, and mastering, which, in his utterly capable hands, became the finished product: an 8 song Christmas EP astutely entitled That Holy Night (A Christmas EP).

The project proudly displays the incredible talents of Rob Classen on piano, Jeff Warren on drums, Jonny Wright on guitars, Chris Donohue on bass, and Emily Overstreet on background vocals. Mindy Boyd also makes a stunning guest appearance on the last track, Isaiah 9 Medley, as does Lewi Longmire on B3, and Guy Tyler on cello.
