Isaiah 9 Medley

This is a medley of two songs that I recorded separately on my last album Live In The Tension. We started performing them as a medley in live shows in 2007, and I wanted to put it on this album for a specific reason. There are many happy, rejoicing Christmas songs (I have included several on this project), but Christmas is not a happy, joyful time for everyone. For many who’ve endured loss & heartache & suffering, the holidays are often a more acute reminder of what they don’t have than a celebration of what they do have. And for others, it’s just a really busy, really stressful time of running from place to place, checking things off their to-do list, and trying to make sure everyone’s happy and no one is offended. So it is for them that I put this song on the album; to gently encourage them to stop and to breathe, and to find a bit of perspective with which to press on.
I know the darkness can feel like an eternity
It seems like nothing can make this turn out right
Just take another breath, take another step
And keep walking toward the light
I know there are changes that you did not anticipate
And there are battles that you don’t want to fight
Just take another breath, take another step
And keep walking toward the light
Take my hand if you need to
Go ahead and hold on tight
For awhile I will lead you
I will lead you toward the light
I know you’re wondering if I have ever felt like you
Yeah, but now I’m singing from the other side
Just take another breath, take another step
And keep walking toward the light
Keep walking toward the light
Return unto thy rest, O my soul
The Lord has dealt bountifully with thee
Return unto thy rest, O my soul
The Lord has dealt bountifully with thee
Trust in Him, He is thy help and thy shield
The Lord has been mindful of thee
He will bless thee
